Optics have revolutionised human visual perception and Sozou is particularly intrigued by the composition of optical instruments because they were primarily made by simple contraptions using mirrors and magnifying lenses. In her work, she maintains the honesty and aesthetics of simple materials and explore their ‘micro-macro’ elements, as well as their reflective and distortive qualities, as metaphors for the workings of the visual system.
